A sad call from an older brother

we got a call a couple of days ago from this older brother in the hall.

he is a great guy who is in his eighties.

he has a very hard time walking and just getting around because of old age but he is the kindest man.

I do not get the ones who feel that he is doing God's work. Really you truly feel that way? How is this God's work making this older man depressed and bugging people. I just do not get it.

Does GOD prefer that you instruct others from the bible where you have a listening ear or not? I would say that Yes HE does, for it helps them to cope with their everyday life and avoiding all of the badness associated with things like drug and alcohol abuse will improve their lives. Only GOD has the truth and He will reveal it to us in due season. Are your personal beliefs "The Truth"? All we can say is we strive to learn and adapt to truth. No one can claim that they have the "Truth". This man has chosen to do what he does just as you have. GOD will never condemn a person for doing what they feel is right under any circumstance. So let this man be and let each person decide for themselves what they choose to belief. That is the meaning of "Do Not Judge" as Jesus Christ taught.......

According to bookstudy, it's ok to beat wife.....occassionally

i apologize if this has been mentioned, but i don't have the time to come on here as often.

yesterday's bookstudy on divorce got my shorts in a bit of a knot.

apparently, according to the god's love book, a wife could consider legal separation from her husband if she is physically abused, but (get this) only in the case of extreme physical abuse, and if the wife's life is in danger.

My experience was a bit mixed. My husband was an unbeliever, and I went to the elders more than once to talk to them about the abuse. They did not discourage me from leaving him but only reminded me that I would have to always stay single unless I could prove he committed adultry. In my case, the pressure came from my own family. My father used to ask me, when he was being abusive, "what did you do to make him angry?" Always implying that it was somehow my fault that I was being treated that way. This isn't too surprising, though my dad was an elder at the time, because he used to beat my brothers with closed fists when he was angry at them. He only beat me that way one time, but he felt too bad for hitting a female, and I made sure I (at that time) didn't let him forget that guilt.

My parents told me all my life that I need to marry a "strong man" in order to control me, because all my life I labored under that dreaded label for female witnesses: independent and willful

The thought was I needed someone to knock it out of me.

Pitiful, really. At any rate I shed the husband and the religion all at the same time.

Divorce is allowable on grounds of fornication. What is fornication? Anything that is contrary to the Laws of GOD is fornication. You are mixing with the "Unclean" things of this world when you commit fornication. Abusing your spouse is "Fornication" because it is unlawful to not treat your wife with love and compassion.........fornication is not just about sexual immorality. Read the scriptures for yourself with this in mind and it will make more sense.......

How many of you have gone though lief without getting angry? Not a single person that will read or post a comment on this thread can say they never have. To have self control over all of your emotions in perfection is everyones goal is it not? It is wrong to expand on someones words and make it into something that was never said. Each circumstance has to be looked at in order to make a determination. It is wrong to abuse your wife it is true, however the type of conduct that constitutes has to be weighed out. If it is labeled as abuse after the circumstances have been reviewed then a problem exists and remedy has to be sought out. This seems to be the meaning of what I read so how can anyone form a different opinion on the matter?

No wonder this religion is full of people who and depressed the guilt placed on us is always there Yet We are the HAPPY PEOPLE! Yeh right. Any thoughts on how happy the JW's are.

If this man prefers to do what he does despite his age who is he hurting? If he feels a bit guilty because he cannot do what he feels pleases GOD who are you to question him? He has built up a conscience based upon the Fear of GOD, or taking in knowledge as written. This is praiseworthy, and The Almighty GOD will reward him. Having to live in the unrighteous world causes depression whereas serving GOD helps to relieve it. Do you not know the difference between good and bad? Is it bad for this man to do his utmost in serving GOD. Never will that be the case.......now please move onto something more tangible instead of finding argument where it does not exist.

a definition of god that works for me: the supernatural being(s) conceived as the perfect and omnipotent and omniscient originator(s) and ruler(s) of the universe; the object(s) of worship by those who believe thusly.. *i added the parentheticals because i believe there are two beings that make up the one god.*.

1. do you agree with that definition?.

2. what do you believe was the role of the son before his incarnation, and do you believe he is a creature?.

The Almighty GOD has no beginning or no end and is the beginning and the end; The Alpha and The Omega. He is the all knowing for all that there is to know. Imagine if you will a perfect circle, it has no beginning or no end, so does it mean that GOD is circular? Does it mean that HE was just there and was not created or begat? Perhaps a being came into existence based upon all that exists. Perhaps this being grew and became intelligent over a period of time overtaking all in existence. In order to have control over all that exists you have to be more powerful than it correct?

All I know is that I exist and whatever I see around me as well. I do not believe in something I cannot see such as particles too small for the naked eye to see. However when man proves that it does exists then there is a bases for me to believe. Perfect order in life forms although in an imperfect state for now proves that there is intelligence out there. One higher than me because I cannot explain my existence other than someone created my species.

Read what the bible says because it fortells the future. Come to know GOD by what you read about Him always giving way to the benefit of the doubt where you do not understand what you read. All in all we all have the same ability to form thought processes and feel emotions so all creation is similar. That in itself is prove that life is based upon law or the Word of GOD.

What does "Worship" mean? It means that we follow the Word of the One who created us, or His Laws.......

Same accounts with similarities and subtle variances. What meaning do you derive from the scripture? Semantics can cause divisions, so bring together what you read from the scriptures in order to grasp the meaning. Does the bible foretell the future? Yes it does..........who else can do this with such accuracy?

Fade rapidly OR jeopardise the fade by helping family/friends learn the truth and remain part of our lives?

can i say from the outset that i feel grief and frustration over family/friends that are not aware of the truth about the "truth".

they are good people who genuinely believe - as we all did at one time- that they are in gods organization and that this is what he requires of them.. .

how liberating for us to have come to know the real truth and how sad they remain guilt ridden and under mind control that fosters these conditional friendships that bother us so much.. .

You have chosen to take a stand for your beliefs. If it is your goal in life to spread information about the W.T.S. then that is what you will do. Be open about your own beliefs and allow your family members to choose their own path. Your side of the conversation will be that you do not believe in the teachings of the W.T.S. any longer. Your families side will be that they still do. If you could find common ground and agree to disagree while remaining in a loving relationship with your family then you have gained both. More than likely your family might take a stand against you and label you as an apostate. The choice is yours just approach it with love.......

1 Six days later Jesus took Peter and James and John his brother along and brought them up into a lofty mountain by themselves.

28 In actual fact, about eight days after these words, he took Peter and John and James along and climbed up into the mountain to pray.

If you notice, there is a difference in the words written. What does it mean when it reads: "eight days after these words" ? Which words are they referring to? When you answer that then we can continue...........

Why weren't the rebellious angels destroyed?

nearly every living thing is drowned to death because of the badness and general mischief going on during noah's day.

why aren't the angels who materialized bodies and fathered a race of giant, violent freaks destroyed as well?.

i know that they, presumably, left their bodies just in time to escaped the flood, but that shouldn't be enough to escape the wrath of almighty god.. it's interesting that the genesis account says very little about them.

Genesis is not about a loving God. It's allegory to a mean SOB that tells humans "OBEY OR ELSE." He's such a mean SOB that the other lesser gods (morphed from mythology into the sons of God, morphed by later people into angels since they only had one god) tried to get around his rules. God didn't destroy them because He was flattered that they thought women (His creation) were ultra-fine. He knew they couldn't help themselves. He knew it would be like creating Man without knowledge of good and bad, tempting him with something that requires that knowledge, then holding Man responsible for failing the loyalty test.

Volumes could be written on what Genesis really meant. OH, they have been written. Nevermind.

Free Will does not comply with "Obey or Else" now does it? We have the opportunity to make up our own minds, otherwise you would not be able to write what you did and call the One who created all life forms what you are. Your stupid mind cannot comprehend what was written, so if you don't understand what you read don't read it.

Did the angels forsake their proper dwelling place because they were weak sexually? Think about it, an angel does not have genitals like humans or do they? Therefore would it not make sense that they did it simply to rebel and to anger The Almighty GOD? Or were they so weak that they could not withstand their sexual desires? Do angels have the same fleshly desires as human? Where have you read that they have intercourse with one another and create baby angels?

Read the account of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden in a symbolic way and see if you could make sense out of it. How many trees that you know of grow knowledge? Was it a literal fruit or a symbolic fruit that they ate of? Just because you do not understand the Wisdom of The Almighty GOD does not give you the right to condemn HIM or question HIM now does it?
